Remembering What's Important

This is a short video that was taken for a project unrelated to the school, but it seemed like it should be shared. If you have trouble seeing it above, the larger version is hosted by the One Day on Earth Project at: https://vimeo.com/55525114

If you haven't had the chance to make it to mass with the students, you should try to arrange it in your schedule one day. It has touched even strangers who  thought they were coming in for a regular Mass.

Sitting there with Monsignor, the students, faculty, parents and members of the community, and witnessing their interaction together is really an inspirational and uplifting experience. And the music and singing are a beautiful bonus. If you are feeling burnt out, or busy or stressed, slow down for an hour and come and join in mass. Your kids will love it. You will feel connected. You will leave feeling better. You could be bombarded with hugs. And it will answer that question "why?".  Why do you choose STCS?  Why all the rules? Why all the hard work? Why all the parent participation?
This is why.

I don't know what other students were doing at their schools on a documented day such as this one, or every other Wednesday for that matter. But I do know what ours were doing.

Have safe and Merry Christmas!

November is Here!

A group of 7th graders on their field trip to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.
Hope this finds everyone doing well. Its been a while since we last met up, and as usual a lot has been going on at school. There were conferences, a teacher appreciation lunch (we really do appreciate you!), pumpkin patch field trips, report cards, soccer, cross country and basketball games, and middle school field trips! phew! We could go on and on.

And November promises just as much action. Middle school is going on more field trips to the Art Centers in Pueblo, Springs and/or Denver. There is the first quarter awards assembly set for today, along with the 3rd grade's Rice Krispie Treats Sale. There's the the upcoming "You Take the Ax" performance, the ACE meeting this Tuesday, a Schwan's Pie Sale and Thanksgiving Break.

Did someone say "Break"?
Yes, a week long much deserved one!
And with that, we'd like to take a minute to thank you all again for your support and/or participation so far. Thanks to EVERYONE. Because every little bit makes a difference.

Thanks to the teachers, Marcia and Mr. Brainard for a great first quarter. Thanks to Dan Caudill, Dianna Maal, Jason Aquirre, and Mr. Pisciotta, and all those involved, for coaching our kids in soccer, cross country and basketball. Thank you to Tracy Serena who gets out the newsletter to us every month. Thank you to Bonnie Painter and Marcia who help keep us organized and get our many notes out to all the families. Thank you to Gina Baca and Shelly Gill for organizing a wonderful teacher luncheon. Thank you to the Bernard Family for helping Student Council with their microwaves, and to Brandi Vellar for getting the 3rd grade fundraiser going.
The list goes on and on and we notice and appreciate everyone.
See? WE can do this TOGETHER!

Hope to see you at our next meeting, Tuesday, Nov. 13th at 6:30 P.M.

Take care.

Sincerely,

Your ACE Committee

Seen Any of These Around?

If you were around after school Wednesday, chances are pretty high that you saw A LOT.

Most of the school was sporting a mustache from the kick off assembly for Great American Opportunities. GAO is the fundraiser for which packets came home as well. The first 2 weeks is a really well priced magazine sale, paired with an online store, which is YEAR ROUND. Mark the web address below in your bookmarks and remember to shop there when looking for gifts for Christmas, birthday's etc.  With our code, the school will receive 40% of all purchases made! 40%! Fundraisers such as this are a great opportunity for the school. If large ones like this are a success, it will enable us to do away with some of the smaller ones, so our parents don't feel like they are faced with so many. But, it takes all of us to do it TOGETHER, so we hope you find some items you like.

And yes, this is where the kids got penguin fever! We think most of them are revved up and ready to earn more penguins!!

This is what it looks like when a school and it's community come together...

No! Not a truck full of junk! A truck full of SUCCESS! - And happy students too!

You did it! While we won't get the "official" word till around Friday, I don't know about you, but that is one FULL truck! Dont' let the shadow at the top fool you. It was filled to the ceiling!

Thank you so much to all those in the school or parish, other parishes, and those who drive by, who donated anything large or small. Special thanks to those who helped work a shift this past weekend : Hilary Munoz, Lori Miller, Chad Reich, Jeffrey Reich, Meghan Purcell, Stas Jimenez, and The Ferioli Family. Also to Marcia for helping us with phone calls and distributing flyers,  and with a big, big, BIG thanks to Dennis Sheehan and Martin Vigil. You guys were great. Your muscle and patience were appreciated to no end!

OK, now no resting on our laurels...This Friday, Oct. 5 is Root Beer Float Friday! Floats will be sold for $1.50 at lunch throughout the month of October. Also due are The Original Artworks orders and Scrip orders. And if you haven't gotten you Knight Run pledge forms in, Elizabeth is still taking them.

Take care,
Michelle

Of Note...

There is a new supply of gift cards (scrip) in the office if you didn't get to place an order. We'll always try to have a supply of the more popular cards to make it convenient on everyone to stop by and pick one up on the way to the gas station, grocery store or dinner, etc.

The minutes from the September 11, 2012  ACE meeting are up on the "Reports & Minutes" page.

Another post as a reminder of the "Fill A Truck" Donation Drive will  be posted later this week, along with hours, phone numbers and a list of items that we can not accept.

Hope you are all having a happy week!  : )

A Busy Day

The Pre-School's Knight Run, held this morning, and again later this afternoon, went off without a hitch! Looks like the older grades have some competition. Some of our little ones had so many lap marks on their tags they were hard to count! Thanks to Elizabeth Cornella for coordinating the event and to all the other parent volunteers who lent a hand!

While Pre School was "running for their school", the 2nd graders were saying hello to their new teacher, Mrs. West. Today was her first full day alone with the class and we have heard all good news! The class said goodbye to Mrs. Bachicha yesterday, as she is moving on to another school. We wish her and Mrs. West all the best with their new classes.

Tuesday is Picture Day, so keep any eye out for your order forms.

Tuesday Evening at 6:30 is our first ACE meeting in the upper building science room. We have a lot to discuss about upcoming fundraisers and school happenings, but we'll keep it to only an hour so please try to join us if you can. You get volunteer credits and your child gets a "homework pass"!

Friday is the Knight Run for the rest of the school during their normal PE times.

If you haven't turned in your students registration forms there is still time.

We hope you all have a great week!
